Children’s Dental Center: our name says it all! We are all about children, and we have more than twenty years of experience in helping kids have their best dental experience. Through the years, we have put time-tested dental research into practice in order to develop a high degree of specialization and expertise in taking care of our patients. Everything we do here is geared towards providing children with the top quality care they deserve, delivered in an atmosphere that they can enjoy. We want you as a parent to know the steps that we take to give your child the best dental experience!
Here are five ways we use specialized research during your child’s visit:
We see young children in the morning because research shows they focus better earlier in the day.
We provide lobby and procedure entertainment because it’s proven to give a more enjoyable experience.
We use kid-friendly terms for dental procedures because it sets kids at ease (“Tickling teeth” = Teeth Cleaning).
We have a kid-friendly, fun atmosphere because it makes the visit feel like an adventure (ea. office has a unique theme – Safari, Train, Beach).
Parents are allowed back and may peek in on their child at any point during the visit. Because research shows children have a better dental experience when their parents aren’t visible to them during care, we ask parents to observe the care of children 3+ from a separate room or peek in. Children under age 3 will sit on their parent’s lap during the visit.
Benefits to being able to observe your child without them seeing you include:
A reduced chance of adults introducing their own dental anxiety to children.
Increased focus on the dentist’s requests (which reduces the length of appointments, making for a shorter, less frustrating visit for your child).
Improved behavior for your child (research shows children tend to behave better for other people – it’s the babysitter thing, right? Usually, kids put their best foot forward when they are with people they are less familiar with).
Allowing your child to feel like a “big kid”—this encourages independence and confidence going to the appointment.
Decreased need for sedation (though of course we would definitely talk with the parent beforehand if a child needed a separate appointment for sedation).
We want you to feel completely comfortable with your child’s experience here. This is why we encourage patients to peek in on us throughout the appointment, so you can see how good we are at what we do.
Before coming in, you can also take a virtual tour of our offices at greatstartgreatsmiles.com. We would also love for you to stop by our offices in person for a tour before your child’s first visit!
