Regular cleanings are an important part of maintaining healthy teeth. Your child should have a professional cleaning every six months to prevent and detect problems before they become more serious.
The Cleaning Process
We start by using a dental explorer to examine your child’s teeth, and may also take x-rays to get a better look. We want to be sure that we spot any cavities early on.
During the cleaning, we use an electric toothbrush to thoroughly clean your child’s teeth, often reaching places that a regular brushing might not. As we clean, a suction straw will remove the excess liquid in your child’s mouth.
After cleaning, we may apply a fluoride treatment. Fluoride has been shown repeatedly to reduce the risk of dental decay for children. Not only is fluoride beneficial on a daily basis in toothpaste, mouth rinses, and community water, but a twice a year professional application after a dental cleaning has also been proven to reduce decay.
Through regular cleanings, we can prevent cavities and maintain your child’s healthy smile.
